Restore Your Carpet: Eliminate Wrinkles and Tripping Hazards
Don't replace your carpet—restore it! If you are noticing wrinkles, buckles, ripples, or bulges, professional carpet stretching is an affordable and smart alternative to full replacement. These issues are more than just an eyesore; they create tripping hazards, cause rapid wear, and lead to uneven patterns. DKB uses professional techniques to tighten and re-stretch your carpet, extending its life and saving you a significant amount of money.
What is carpet stretching?
Carpet stretching involves re-tightening, then re-securing the carpets back to the floor, removing wrinkles, ripples, buckles and /or bulges. Most professional carpet stretchers will use a wall to wall professional carpet stretcher. Bringing your carpets back to life, extending their longevity and making them aesthetically pleasing.
Signs your carpets need to be stretched:
- Visible signs of wrinkles, and ripples - You will see noticeable signs of waves and all others listed above in your carpets usually high traffic areas. They can sometimes start out small and get bigger or worsen over time.
- Bumps or even lumps - These you can feel as you walk across your carpets, they can feel like soft spots and sometimes like a sponge indicating often slack between the carpet and the pad underneath.
- Tripping - Loose, bunched up areas of carpet create safety risks such as tripping.
- Difficulty vacuuming or cleaning - uneven carpets make vacuuming more difficult and less effective.
- Uneven wear patterns - Loose carpet areas create more friction quickly leading to premature signs of aging and or damage to the carpet fibers.

What causes carpet wrinkles and buckling?
- Heavy foot traffic: Regular, repeated pressure from walking can cause the carpet to shift and loosen over time, especially in high-traffic areas like hallways and living rooms.
- Moving heavy furniture: Dragging heavy sofas, beds, or appliances across the floor can pull the carpet out of its original position, creating ripples and buckling.
- Changes in humidity and temperature: In Washington State this is a common reason, fluctuations in moisture and temperature, particularly with seasonal shifts, can cause the carpet backing and fibers to expand and contract, which loosens its grip on the tack strips.
- Improper initial installation: If the carpet was not stretched tightly enough with the proper tools during the initial installation, it will relax and loosen over time.
- Weakened backing: The adhesives that bond the carpet's fibers to its backing can deteriorate over many years, leading to "delamination," where the layers separate and cause the carpet to ripple.
- Accidental wetting: If the carpet gets saturated due to a spill, pet accident, or improper cleaning technique, the fibers can expand and lose tension. While it can sometimes return to normal, severe cases cause lasting wrinkles.
- Normal aging and wear: Like any material, carpets naturally lose some of their original elasticity and tension over the course of their life, making them more prone to ripples and bumps.
Our Step-by-Step Carpet Stretching Process:
Pre-Inspection Walk-Through: To start, we will walk through the area with you to address your specific areas of concern and ensure we target every problematic ripple.
Room & Furniture Preparation: To perform a proper, complete stretch, the work area needs to be entirely clear of furniture, unless discussed during scheduling. If you need our team to handle the heavy lifting, please let us know before our arrival. We are happy to assist, but additional furniture-handling fees apply, and we must allocate extra time for your appointment.
Precision Stretching: We carefully work our way through the room, repeating the stretching process methodically. We use a professional mechanical wall-to-wall power stretcher (rather than a standard knee kicker) to pull the carpet to its optimal tension until the existing wrinkles and ripples are pulled flat.
Optional Deep Cleaning: If you have also booked a carpet cleaning alongside your stretching service, we will then begin giving the carpet a deep, thorough clean using our powerful Rotovac 360i to leave your newly stretched floors looking fresh and revitalized.
Benefits of carpet stretching:

- Boosts your carpet's performance. A taut carpet is more effective at trapping dust and debris, leading to better cleaning results when you vacuum.
- Provides a more comfortable feel underfoot. A smooth, even surface is more comfortable to walk on and improves the overall quality of your space.
- Offers a cost-effective alternative to replacement. You can extend the life of your existing carpet for a fraction of the cost of installing a new one.
- Improves indoor air quality. When your carpet lies flat, it won't trap dust and allergens underneath its ripples, which helps keep your home's air cleaner.
